US Government Escape and Evasion Barter Kit
United States Government Escape and Evasion Barter Kit. 3.75” x 4.5” x .75”, 289.8 grams, black rubber sealed case, with “If Found Return to ComNavAirLant (CNAL 34) Norfolk, Virginia” molded in raised letters on each side, with “1456” crudely scratched on one side. Escape and evasion kits of this type were typically issued to military pilots to be used for barter in the event they were shot down behind enemy lines. This particular kit is designated the “Atlantic Kit” and contains approximately .90 troy ounces (.75 troy ounces for coins, .15 troy ounces for rings) of fine gold. A brochure from the Department of Defense Logistics Agency indicates that the case consists of: one 20 Franc gold coin, one 10 Franc gold coin, one 1 pound Sovereign gold coin (British of South African mintage), two ½ pound Sovereign gold coins (British or South African mintage), and three gold rings either plain or embossed. The kit appears to be completely sealed and untampered with. Kits such as these were surplused via auction by the Defense Department in the late 1970s and 1980s.

Shipping: Flat Material, Small (view shipping information)
