The piece was supposedly found near Wood Mountain, Saskatchewan in 1966 and is thought to be a 1860's private purchase horse bit used in the US Cavalry. This comes with an information tag as shown in the picture. Many of Custer's horses, rifles, handguns, and saddles were brought north by Sioux in December 1876 when Sitting Bull fled across the border into Canada. The original owner included a tag which reads, "Red Lodge Mont. May 6, 1967 Old Cavalry bit given to me by Leo Bunch H. Buining." The bit measures 6 1/8"x7".
