UNUSUAL SLIDE OPENING SIDELOCK EJECTOR 16 GAUGE

LIGHT GAME GUN BY C.S. ROSSON WITH CASE. Cal. 16 Ga. 2 1/2". S# 3480. C.S. Rosson patented his slide opening action in 1931. It had limited use, but was well liked by most customers. This best quality gun, the 80th gun made in 1934, has 26" dovetailed bbls. engraved "C.S. Rosson & Co. Rampant Horse Street. Norwich." on very narrow swamped game rib. Bbl. flats are stamped with Birmingham nitro proofs for 2 1/2" chambers; bottoms of bbls. with serial numbers. Casehardened sidelock action is stocked to the fences, and features automatic safety ("SAFE" inlaid in gold) and blued large opening slide at top of grip. When slide is in rear position, "BOLTED" in gold can be seen. Top of action is engraved "Rosson's" "Slide" "Opening". Action and locks are engraved with 80% coverage very well cut shaded scroll within small scroll borders. "C.S. Rosson & Co." is at the front of each lockplate. Blued trigger guard with matching scroll on bow has serial number on trigger guard tang. Rosson's serial numbers are configured so that the 1st two digits are the year of manufacture, the 2nd two are the gun number. Fine quality, replacement straight grip buttstock of beautifully marbled and lightly figured, flesh toned European walnut measures 14 3/4" over checkered wood butt. Well cut point pattern checkering with line borders is at grip and a vacant silver oval is on toe line. Matching splinter Southgate ejector forend w/ Anson release, appears to retain original wood.
