The Battle of New Orleans, fought on January 8, 1815, was a significant U.S. victory during the War of 1812. Despite the Treaty of Ghent ending the war a month earlier, news hadn't reached the United States yet. General Andrew Jackson's forces successfully defended New Orleans against a larger, more experienced British army. The battle is remembered for its decisive U.S. victory and its impact on national pride and Jackson's political career.
