A.L.S. of "Asa", 1p. sm. 8vo., Clover Hill, Va., Apr. 9, 1865, in pencil on lined letterhead to his wife, in part: "...I am safe & well but tired to death. We have been chasing Gen. Lee for a week night & day. To day at 4 oclock P.M. he surrendered the Army of Northern Va to Gen. Meade. I am too tired to give you any details. I have not had 4 hours sleep in 8 days and have not had my clothes off in 12 days. This is the first opportunity I have had to send a word to you...". With original postal cover, folds with erosion on one, a bit fragile but still very good.
