Reads, "...I am in receipt of your letter...enclosing your speech before the Citizens of Madison. I made no such remark about your speech as is attributed to me. I am sure I have not seen the speech, in full, in print until now, and your position on the L[ouisian]a question I have know[n] from the time it came up in Congress.
