Springfield Model 1888 Trapdoor “Ramrod Bayonet” rifle, .45-70 cal., 33” round barrel, blue and case hardened finish, wood stock, sling swivels, ramrod bayonet, wood stock, #540586 in overall very good condition showing a brown patina to the barrel and traces of muted case color on the receiver, good bore, crisp action, very good markings including “32” and “39” stamped on the top of the butt plate below the “US”; very good wood with remnants of circle P proof behindtrigger guard; no inspector’s cartouche visible; some minor scattered old dings and mars from carry and storage; minor oil staining around top of butt plate. A key Model for the Martial collector as this was the last of the blackpowder U.S.trapdoor single shot big caliber longarms in the Springfield series; per Flayderman’s, approx. 65,000 produced.
