U.S. model 1842 percussion pistol by Aston
.54 cal. percussion, 8 1/2" barrel with a very good bore. The barrel is primarily a bright gun metal gray with some sparsely scattered very light oxidation staining and a few light pinprick pits; the firing proofs can be seen, the tang date is only partially legible. The lockplate and hammer are a darker mottled two-tone gray case-hardened patina also with some minor scattered pinprick pitting and light oxidation staining. It is appropriately maker marked and dated 1848. The brass is a dull goldenrod patina showing evidence of a one-time polish, now starting to require a patina. The smooth walnut stock rates very good showing perhaps an old very light cleaning with some minor dings, light drying cracks and two light left side cartouches. The lock is crisp and mechanically functional and what is likely the original ramrod is present. A very good example overall .
