U.S. military-marked Kentucky-style rifle by J. Henry of Phila. Shortened to 47" overall, 32" barrel. Bored to smooth bore, approx. .70 caliber. Stock shortened and capped with pewter. Converted from flintlock to percussion. The gun shows large "US" stamp at breech, "P" proof at breech, and good maker's markings on barrel. This interesting frontier piece was found recently on a reservation in Oklahoma. J. Dickert Gomph Deringer and J. Henry contracted for military style Kentucky typerifles just after the turn of the century and very few are known with the U.S. markings. One of the earliest of all U.S. martial long arms, and this one has seen hard use on the frontier but is very restorable, although we like it just as it is.Est: $750 - $1,500
