This Colt Service Model Ace Semi-Automatic Pistol was manufactured by Colt in 1941. This pistol, serial number, 2053 was one of 103 Service Model Ace pistols shipped from Colt to the Springfield Armory on July 30, 1941. Nearly all of the early Service Model Ace pistols were utilized by the U.S. Navy. The pistol has a high polish blue finish and checkered, brown plastic stocks. The slide is fitted with the correct matt-finished Ellison rear sight and target front sight. The barrel has the 'floating chamber' that distinguishes the Service Model Ace from the earlier production Colt Ace pistols. The base of the main-spring housing is correctly not fitted with a lanyard loop. The pistol has a 'two-tone' magazine with blued floor plate. The left side of the frame is stamped with the boxed "R.S." final ordnance inspection mark. The right side of the slide and magazine floor plate have the distinctive "Service Model Ace" markings. The serial number, "SM2053" is stamped on the right side of the frame and "20/53" is stamped on the rear of the slide above and below the firing pin hole.
BBL: 5 inch
Stock:
Gauge: 22 LR
Finish: blue
Grips: brown plastic checkered
Serial Number: SM2053
Condition: Fine as partially refinished. The frame retains 70% of the original blue finish. The slide has been refinished and shows light pitting beneath the blue. The original walnut stocks have been replaced; the right stock is an early Coltwood brown plastic stock and the left stock was made by Keyes Fibre Co. The original blued stock screws have been replaced by parkerized screws. The magazine and all other components appear to be original to the pistol. This is a solid example of a scarce and desirable, WWII, Robert Sears inspected, Colt Service Model Ace pistol. Mechanically excellent.
