RIFLE. Cal. 30-06. S# 1146310. Bbl. 24". Avis WWI field replacement barrel is marked "AV / flaming bomb / 2-19". Rifle has the correct slot in the left receiver rail for the Pedersen Device, which was developed during WWI & required rifles to be manufactured to accommodate them. In-addition to the ejector slot, this rifle is fitted w/ the correct magazine cutoff. The double sear trigger has been replaced with a standard model. Ladder rear sight w/o volley notch. Front sight consists of fixed base only. Movable base & blade are not present. Bolt consisting only of bolt body, extractor & collar, is marked on top of handle "BF", "1" & "6". All milled furniture including smooth trap buttplate. Buttplate has the random punch marks usually associated w/ U.S.M.C. issued rifles. S type straight grip walnut stock w/ two recoil bolts & grasping grooves. Walnut handguard appears to be original. CONDITION: markings have been enhanced in white. Buttstock has been refinished, heavily sanded w/ notable loss of wood in inletted areas. Glossy refinish. Band spring is not present. Metal has arsenal rework type parkerized finish over shallow pitting. Rear sight is notably bent. Locking screw for slide is notably not present. Fair worn bore w/ darkened grooves. (25-2834/RW).
