U.S. Springfield Trapdoor Rifle
From the serial number, this appears to be a Model 1879 Springfield, but has later style Model 1884 parts, namely the rear sight. Blade front sight and Model 1884 military wind gauge rear sight graduated to 1400 yards, with the "V / P / eagle head / P" proof and inspection marks on the rear left side of the barrel. Lock plate has the eagle/shield motif next to "U.S. / SPRINGFIELD". Buttplate heel is marked "US", with the letter "U" on both barrel bands. The top of the wrist is drilled with an added eyelet in the hole, possibly for a sight mount. The stock has a script "SWP / 1883" cartouche. Complete with a cleaning rod.

Condition: Fine. The barrel retains 95% thinning original blue finish with some minor handling marks near the muzzle. The receiver, trigger guard, hammer, and buttplate retain traces of faded blue finish with the balance a smooth gray patina. The breechblock and upper tang retain 95% original case colors. The stock is fine with some minor dings and scratches and a few minor gouges and dents, with a long minor gash on the underside of the forearm.
