This carbine receiver falls into the Custer Era Trapdoors with the serial number below 43,700. The carbine was subsequnetly rebuilt and upgraded to Model 1879 specifications. Blade front and Model 1879 ski slope rear sight graduated to 1,500 yards and marked with a "C" on the blade. Low arch breech block marked "U.S./MODEL/1873" with "HN" on the underside. Lock plate marked with the eagle/shield along with "U.S./SPRINGFIELD/1873". One piece straight grip stock with buttstock compartment holding a three piece cleaning rod, "US" marked tang and saddle bar with ring on the left side.

Condition: Very good as arsenal rebuilt. The carbine retains traces of original blue finish in and around the protected area (heavier traces on the trigger plate) with the balance a smooth brown-gray patina. The barrel has some tool-like marks. The stock is fine with a couple hairline stress cracks and some minor handling marks. Mechanically fine.
