U.S. Springfield Model 1903 Mark I Rifle

Manufactured in late 1918 to be used with the then top secret Pedersen Device. The rifle has the standard WWI production smooth buttplate and trigger with correct late WWI production "J6" bent bolt. The late style folding leaf rear sight lacks the 2,750 yard center notch and has a bright face with small dished elevation slide screw and large dished windage screw. The top of the receiver is marked "U.S./SPRINGFIELD/ARMORY/MODEL 1903/MARK I." The barrel is marked "S A/[Ordnance bomb]/12 18". "H" is stamped on the bayonet lug. The stock is stamped with a WWI "Eagle Head/Y400" and "Eagle Head/Y37" final inspection marks with a circled "P" proof behind the trigger guard. With a nickel plated oiler in the buttcap and a WWI production M1907 leather sling.

Very fine as arsenal refurbished. The rifle retains more than 90% arsenal parkerized finish. Both sides of the special Mark I cut-off are parkerized and the cut-off is probably a replacement. The very fine stock appears to be original and has no rebuild/overhaul markings. All markings are sharp. Nearly all of the M1903 Mark I rifles had the special parts removed in the late 1930s and most Mark I rifles have replacement stocks. Original Mark I stocks are nearly impossible to find and the small components are difficult to obtain. This is a desirable representative example of a key M1903 Springfield variation that would enhance your Pedersen Device greatly!
