U.S. Springfield Model 1884 Trapdoor rifle, 45-70 cal., 29-1/2” round barrel, blue and case hardened finish, wood stock, #337111. This gun is in overall very good condition showing approx. 64% muted original blue on the barrel, receiver, lock plate and mounts with some scattered areas of erosion and pitting confined primarily to the muzzle end of the barrel; traces of case color on the trapdoor; excellent bore, sharp markings, crisp action, both sling swivels present with military leather sling, cleaning rod retained; wood stock is in very good overall condition showing scattered nicks, mars and scratches from carry and storage with circle P proof behind lower tang and sharp 1893 inspector’s cartouche on left side of stock above the trigger assembly; VP, eagle and P proof on the left side of the barrel at the breech. Consignor states this rifle came from the great grandson of a United States Marine who carried the rifle in the Spanish American War. Est.: $700-$1,400.
