U.S. Springfield Model 1879 Trapdoor carbine, .45-70 caliber in near fine original condition, #227859 with barrel retaining approx. 96% bright original blue, some slight scratches, minor losses and just beginning normal age. The lockplateshows the majority of its original blue, the breech shows its original quenched colors and the breech block and tang show approx. 85% original case colors that are toning slightly. The wood stock shows a fully defined and crisp “SVW/1882”dated inspector’s cartouche and overall, the stock is very good + to near fine with a few minor dings, mars, scratches and dents. There is a P proof behind the trigger guard with a small “J.C.” letter stamp; the trigger guard shows approx. 90% blue and the barrel band shows 90%-95% bright original blue. The butt plate shows approx. 80% thinning blue, the saddle ring and bar show most of their original finish and the rear sight also shows most of its original blue and is the correct type for this carbine. The action is crisp, the interior and bore are excellent; a 9-9.5 on a 1 to 10 scale. (Antique). Est.: $2,600-$5,200
