U.S. Springfield Model 1879 Trapdoor Rifle

The rifle is equipped with an "R" marked Buffington rear sight and a pinned blade front sight stamped with the number "40". The lock plate has the eagle/shield and "U.S./SPRINGFIELD" and the low arch breechblock is marked "US/MODEL/1873". The left rear side of the barrel has "V/P/eagle head/P" proofs. The stock has a script "SWP/1883" cartouche on the left side of the wrist and a circled script "P" behind the trigger guard. The buttplate has the standard "US" marking on the tang.

Fine. The barrel retains 40% original blue finish with a smooth brown-gray patina on the balance. The lock, hammer, trigger guard and buttplate retain 60% original blue finish with the balance a smooth gray patina. The breech block and tang retain 95% original case colors. The stock is fine with some scattered minor handling marks. The cartouche is clear. Mechanically excellent.
