Blade front sight and ski-slope rear sight graduated to 1,200 yards and marked with an "R" on the upper left side of the blade and left side of the base. The barrel has the standard "V/P/eagle head/P" inspection marks with an "R" on the top. Low arch breechblock marked "U.S./MODEL/1873" and the lock plate is marked "U.S./SPRINGFIELD" next to an eagle with shield. Smooth straight grip stock with ramrod, 2 barrel bands, "SWP/1883" cartouche, circled script "P" in the grip area, a small "H" stamped directly behind the lower tang and smooth "US" marked buttplate. Complete with a U.S. marked Model 1873 socket bayonet, 18 inch blade, and a Uncle Mike's sling. The rifle appears to be one of the Model 1879 rifles refinished at Rock Island Arsenal during the Spanish-American War.

Condition: Very fine as Arsenal refurbished. The barrel has a smooth brown patina. The lock has a smooth bluish gray patina and the hammer and breechblock retain much of the case colors with a smooth gray patina on the balance. The trigger guard shows 60% blue finish. The stock is very good with a few overall scattered minor dings and dents, with clear cartouche. The markings are clear. The action is excellent. The bayonet has a smooth brown patina, with some scattered minor spotting. The sling is very good.
