U.S. Springfield Model 1873 Trapdoor rifle, 45-70 cal., 32-5/8” barrel, blue and case hardened finish, wood stock, #8515. This gun is in overall very good condition with approx. 40% muted blue finish mixed with a pleasing brown patina on barrel, some case colors remain on receiver and the “trapdoor” has gone to a silvery finish; the lock plate shows good markings; the bore is good with sharp barrel proofs on the left side of the barrel at the breech; the action is crisp, the wood is very good with remnants of an inspector’s cartouche on the left side above the trigger guard; iron ramrod remains as do the sling swivels. This early ’73 shows the high arch breech. From the Richard Wolfe Collection. Est.: $800-$1,600.
