U.S. Springfield Model 1873 Trapdoor Rifle, #98779, .45-70 cal., 32-5/8'' barrel, walnut stock, two barrel bands, long-range rear sight with adjustable leaf, cleaning rod, and brown leather sling. Lock is marked ''U.S. / Springfield / 1873''; top of breech is marked ''U.S. / Model / 1873'', and left side of barrel is marked ''VP/(eagle's head)'' (barely visible). Left side of stock with faint cartouche just above triggerguard. Top edge of buttplate with U.S. markings. Condition is very good. Metal surfaces retain approx. 30% blue with an overall light to medium gray/brown patina. Lock and breechblock markings remain clear. Stock with normal signs of age and wear, impressions, oil darkening, in addition to a hairline crack at wrist. Action is crisp, bore is very good. Leather sling shows considerable wear and cracking but remains intact. Est.: $500-$750. (Antique)
