U.S. Springfield Model 1873 Trapdoor Carbine

This is a Custer era Model 1873 Carbine with the serial number below 43,000 that was later arsenal refurbished/upgraded to Model 1879 spec's. Fitted with a ladder rear sight graduated to 1,500 yards on a base graduated 1-8. Three click tumbler and saddle ring bar with ring mounted on the left side of the stock. The breech block is marked "U.S./MODEL/1873" and the lock plate is marked with the eagle motif and "U.S./SPRINGFIELD" (note that the lock marking does not include "1873"). Carbine stock with traces of a cartouche stamped on the left side of the wrist and a buttplate with compartment.

Fine as arsenal refurbished and upgraded to Model 1879 specification. The carbine has a mottled brown-gray patina with the action and trigger guard retaining 20% of the blue finish. The breech block retains traces of the case colors. The stock is fine with a small chip missing near the stock toe and some minor handling marks.
