U.S. Springfield Model 1871 Ward-Burton SRC, .50 cal., 22-1/4” round barrel, “in-the-white” finish, wood stock, single barrel band, #NVSN. This gun is in overall very good + condition showing a light grey patina to metal surfaces with somescattered spots of light erosion, very good to fine bore, crisp action, sharp markings, very good wood stock with partially visible inspector’s cartouche on left side of stock under the saddle ring bar and what appears to be two “A”s, oneinverted below the other, on the left butt stock behind four old circular marks of unknown meaning; some scattered old nicks and mars from carry and storage with an old compression on the left side of the butt stock and another behind the saddlering bar but nothing serious; correct U.S.-marked steel butt plate. Only 316 carbines were manufactured in 1871 by the Springfield Armory and only about 1,000 Ward-Burton rifles were made, making the carbines particularly a difficult Model to obtain; a key piece for any Martial collection! (Antique). Est.: $2,500-$5,000.
