Manufactured by Springfield Armory on royalty agreement with the Remington Arms Co. from 1871 to 1872. The right side of the casehardened receiver is stamped with the eagle/shield motif above "U.S./SPRINGFIELD/1872" with the left side stamped "MODEL 1871". The upper tang has the two line Remington patent date (1864 and 1868) marking and the two barrel bands are marked with the letter "U". It has a ladder rear sight, cleaning rod, leather sling, and wooden muzzle plug. Casehardened receiver and trigger guard with remaining metal surfaces bright. Mounted with a smooth full length stock fitted with a buttplate stamped "US" on the tang. The left side of the wrist is stamped with a "GCA" inspector cartouche.

Condition: Excellent. The barrel and bands retain most of the bright finish with the buttplate having a mottled gray patina. The receiver and trigger guard retain 90% of the slightly faded original case colors. The hammer and breechblock have some very scattered mild pitting. The stock is also excellent with some scattered minor pressure dents and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
