U.S. Springfield Model 1868 trapdoor rifle, .50 cal., 32-1/2” barrel, brown finish, wood stock, trapdoor dated 1870, lock plate dated 1865, high arch breech block, iron cleaning rod, #597. This gun is in overall goodcondition showing a brown patina on metal surfaces with scattered pin prick pitting, fair bore, crisp action, sharp markings, overall good wood with scattered mars and scratches from years of carry and storage,circle P proof behind lower tang, partially visible inspector’s cartouche on left side of stock above trigger group; a somewhat scarce variation as slightly more than 51,000 were made between 1868 and 1872.
