The lock plate is dated "1864" behind the hammer and the eagle/shield motif with "U.S. / SPRINGFIELD" in front of it. The top of the breechblock is dated 1866 and stamped with an eagle head. Blade and two leaf sights with traces of cartouche on left stock flat. With slotted and knurled head ramrod.

Condition: Good. Overall the rifle has a mottled brown patina with a mottled gray patina on the breechblock. There is some scattered minor pitting with some minor spotting (mostly on the action components). The stock is also good with some chipping and a few missing slivers along the ramrod channel, some minor dings, scratches, and pressure dents, and a large putty filled repair near the upper tang. Mechanically fine.
