Blade front and three leaf rear sights, with "V/ P/ eagle head" on the left flat and "1855" on the tang. Lock plate is marked "U.S./ SPRINGFIELD" at the front, American eagle on the Maynard primer door, and "1856" at the rear. Smooth pistol grip stock, with a swiveling ramrod, brass furniture, faint cartouche and iron back strap with stock slots. Two leaf niter blue correct rear sight. The buttstock has brass furniture and an iron sling swivel, with "16" on the underside of the tang and "US" on the heel of the buttplate. The butt of gun has the number "1". With a partial strip of primers.

Condition: Very good. The metal is bright overall, with crisp original markings, with a darker patina forming on the back strap and pitting around the nipple. Stock is very good, with a pair of dents from the buttstock on the rear, a crack on the left side, and a number of dents. The buttstock shows light chips and dings. Bore has been bored out. Mechanically excellent. This is a solid representative example of a U.S. Model 1855 Pistol / Carbine.
