Bead front and folding ladder rear sights, the latter marked "US" and missing the elevator bar, with the barrel marked "V/ P/ eagle head" on the left side near the breech and "1853" on the tang. Lock is marked "SPRING/ FIELD/ 1848" on the tail and "eagle/ US" ahead of the hammer. Smooth straight grip stock, with "T" marked on the underside behind the ramrod channel and "US" on the buttplate heel. With an 18" long triangular spike bayonet, marked "US".

Condition: Fine, showing a brown patina overall, with lighter brown in the low areas, scattered spotting and mild handling marks. The front sight has been filed down, the front sling swivel is broken, and the ramrod is absent. Fine stock, with solid wood showing light chipping around the edges and moderate scuffs and dings. Bayonet shows mild rust and spotting. Mechanically fine. This rifle has the "found in the attic" look and appears as untouched for many years.
