U.S. Springfield Model 1842 Percussion Musket with New Jersey Markings
Manufactured from 1844 to 1855. Dated 1849 on the barrel tang with the lock marked "SPRING / FIELD / 1847" with a faint eagle shield over "US". The left side rear of the barrel is marked with the "V / P / eagle head" proofmarks and the left flat is marked with "N.J". An "N.J" cartouche is stamped on the left stock flat. Fixed front bade sight mounted on the front barrel band, correctly without a rear sight, bayonet lug mounted on the underside of the barrel, sling swivel on the middle barrel band and on the front of the trigger guard , and iron ramrod with trumpet head. Buttplate tang is marked "US". Complete with a leather sling.

Condition: Very good. The musket has a mottled gray patina with a darker patina on the lock, hammer, and buttplate. There is some deep flash pitting and some pin point pitting overall, with minor pitting on the buttplate. The stock is also very good with some minor dings and scratches. The stock cartouche is clear. Mechanically fine.
