Brass blade front sight mounted on the front strap of the front barrel band with a square bayonet lug on the muzzle. "Eagle/US" marked ahead of the hammer on the lock, "SPRING/FIELD/1830" at the rear, the top of the barrel is marked "H&P", the tang is dated "1861", the left rear of the barrel has a recessed "P" and the flat is marked "NJ", (the marking appears to be not of period). Three leaf rear sight with an upsidedown "17" stamped on the left side and mounted with a full walnut stock with an oval "E?" and "A/2" cartouche on the left flat, "13" and "20" stamped on the comb ahead of the buttplate tang and "US" on the tang. With a button head iron ramrod.

Condition: Very fine. The barrel and trigger guard retain 75% plus Arsenal brown finish. The vanish has turned brown and almost all remains. The lock and hammer have a mottled brownish gray patina. The barrel tang screw is absent. The stock is excellent with crisp flats, sharp cartouches, raised feathered grain, a few minor nicks on the edges of the flats and overall some scattered minor dents. A period field applied "JA" has been carved into the right side of the wrist. The action is excellent.
