U.S. Springfield Model 1816 1862 Civil War Hewes & Phillips Conversion Percussion Musket
This Model 1816 Springfield Musket has a bolster conversion preformed by Hewes & Phillips of Newark, New Jersey and features a distinctive percussion breech with integral bolster without a clean-out screw. The lock is marked "SPRING / FIELD / 1828" behind the hammer and the eagle shield motif over "US" in front of the hammer, with "H&P" upside down on the bolster and the breech end of barrel dated 1862. Blade and three leaf sights. Inspector initials on the trigger guard plate, with "P" on the barrel. Oval cartouche present on left stock flat.

Condition: Excellent, with the metal surfaces having been cleaned at one time. The stock is excellent with the exception of a couple minor gouges on the forearm (right side) and some scattered minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent. Appears unissued.
