U.S. Springfield M1795 Flintlock Musket
Based on the 1763 Charleville musket which were imported from France and used during the Revolutionary War, the Model 1795 was the first musket to be produced in the United States. These were manufactured by Springfield, Harper's Ferry and Eli Whitney. The Model 1795 was used in the War of 1812. It was replaced by the Springfield 1812 and 1816 models. The "U.S." marked barrel and bands have turned a dark almost black color. The lock plate, showing darker near the pan, still distinctly reads "U.S. / Eagle / SPRINGFIELD" and the rear of the plate is clearly marked "1809". The top of the butt plate appears to be marked "1810". The action functions as expected. The screw holding the cock although looking original, is short and not secure. The stock is in very nice condition with no cracks but the typical wear just behind the pan. Overall a very nice and collectible piece of American history. Antique.
