Only 5,000 Model 1898 carbines were manufactured by Springfield Armory in 1898 and 1899. The serial number range for Model 1898 Carbines fall within the Model 1898 Rifle range. Observed carbine serial numbers range from 118,894 to 134,256. This carbine is in the lower end of the known Model 1898 Carbine serial number range. Blade front sight and folding leaf rear sight graduated to 2,000 yards and marked with a "C" on the upper right hand corner of the leaf. The left side of the base has even numbered graduations from 2 to 6. Standard receiver markings and mounted with a smooth one-piece straight grip stock with matching handguard, finger grooves in the forearm, saddle ring and bar on the left side of the stock, visible cartouche, (date a bit difficult to make out, appears to be "1898"), on the left wrist, circled "P" on the bottom of the grip area, "32" stamped directly behind the trigger guard and steel buttplate with compartment, (cleaning rod not included).

Condition: Very good. the receiver and magazine which have a smooth mottled patina on the receiver, with some traces of blue finish present in protected areas and a mix of smooth gray patina and thin blue finish on the magazine. The barrel has a smooth brown patina with traces of original blue finish in the protected areas around the forearm and on the sides of the front sight base. The wood is very good with some overall scattered minor pressure dents and dings. The saddle ring bar assembly is a refinished replacement. The markings remain crisp and clear. The action is excellent.
