Percussion conversion by Hewes and Phillips of Newark, New Jersey circa. 1861-62. It has the bolster type percussion conversion, fixed blade front and three leaf rear sight (one leaf is broken). The lock plate is marked "SPRING / FIELD / 1832" with standard proofs. Stock is correct full length military version with no visible markings. The side of the bolster is marked "H&P". "US" marked on the buttplate tang, "S" marked side plate and "DP" marked ahead of the trigger guard with "P / eagle head" proofs on the left side of the barrel and "1862" on top. Replacement iron trumpet head ramrod and broken trigger guard sling swivel.
