This is an example of a post-WWII M1 Garand rifle that was converted into the desirable M1D Sniper rifle, that was probably issued during the Korean or Vietnam War time frame. The M1D was built using standard M1 rifles and installing a special M1 Sniper barrel as manufactured at Springfield Armory. These barrels were manufactured from approximately Jan 1952 to Feb 1953 and the conversion was done at Springfield as well as other army depots. This rifle is marked on the receiver "U.S. RIFLE/CAL 30 M1/SPRINGFIELD/ ARMORY/4387128", and the barrel is marked "SA-11-52". All the parts are Springfield manufactured. It has a nice walnut stock and handguard set and the pistol grip area has a single "P" and the stock is fitted with a correct M1D leather lace-on sniper cheekpiece marked "K/LINE" on the top. The rifle is complete with a green canvas GI sling with a T-37 flashider.
