U.S. Springfield Armory M1D Sniper Rifle with Scope and Flashider

Estimate: $2750 - 3750
This Garand has been arsenal/depot converted to a M1D sniper rifle configuration. The M1D sniper rifles were an improved version of the M1Cs in that any standard M1 Garand rifle could be converted to this sniper rifle configuration by just adding the new M1D barrel. This allowed numerous WWII rifles to be overhauled and converted during the early part of the Korean war, Vietnam and into the early 1970s by National Guard and Reserve units. The rear of the receiver has the standard Springfield Armory markings. The serial number range puts this receiver as being originally manufactured in mid 1943. The right side of the barrel is marked "S- A-1-52" which falls into the first month of actual M1D barrel production. It has a mix of WWII and early post-war Springfield parts, which would be correct for this configuration of rifle. It is fitted with a correct M84 snipe scope and the correct M1D mount. The scope identification plate is marked "TELESCOPE M84" over serial number "36952" and is complete with the rubber eye piece. The left side of the butt stock is stamped with the WWII Springfield "SA over GAW" boxed cartouche with a single "P" proof in the pistol grip area. It has a correct leather lace on cheek pad that is marked "MRT 1-52", an early milled M2 flashider (as produced by Springfield Armory), and a WWII leather sling. The rifle appears to be a correct depot level converted M1D sniper rifle.
