U.S. Springfield Armory M1D Semi-Automatic Sniper Rifle with M84 Scope

Estimate: $2500 - 3250
This is a very nice example of a mid-WWII M1 Garand rifle that was converted into the later pattern M1D Sniper rifle. This example was probably converted during Korean or early Vietnam when the M1D rifles saw most of their actual use. The M1D was built by taking a standard M1 Garand and installing a M1D Sniper barrel and installing the scope, flash hider and cheek pad. The barrels were manufactured from approximately Jan 1952 to Feb 1953 and the conversion was done at Springfield as well as other Army Depots. This rifle is marked on the receiver "U.S. RIFLE/CAL 30 M/ SPRINGFIELD/ARMORY/1972139" and the barrel is marked "S-A-10-52". This rifle has a mix of early and late WWII SA parts, with a WRA marked trigger housing. This rifle has been fitted with a walnut stock and walnut handguard set with a correct M1D leather sniper cheek piece marked "MRT 102-52" on the side (screws are absent). The front of the pistol grip is marked with the circle "P" proof with no other proofs. It has a correct M84 sniper scope with mount with rubber eye shield, marked "TELESCOPE M84/SERIAL NO. 30510" on the identification plate. It is complete with the CMP documents, inventory sheet, stamped flash hider, GI canvas sling and cleaning equipment stored in the butt trap compartment.
