U.S. Simeon North Model 1816 Flintlock Pistol

This is a solid example of a Simeon North U.S. Model 1816 Flintlock pistol that was manufactured circa 1817 to 1820 from a total production of about 19,374. The lock plate is marked with the later type marking "S. NORTH (in a downward arch)/U eagle shield motif S/MIDLTN CONN. (in an upward arch)", the breech end of the barrel is marked "RJ" above the touch hole and the left rear of the barrel is marked "P/US". There is a condemnation mark present above the aforementioned marking. Each screw head on the left side plate is stamped with a "K". Brass blade front sight on the barrel band, brass flash pan without a fence and the remaining mountings are iron. The stock extends about 1/2 inch ahead of the barrel band and the iron back strap extends from the barrel to the buttcap. There is an oval "LS" cartouche and "J.C." stamped on the left stock flat. There are some other single character stamps, possibly "3" present on the right side and lower forward grip. "K" inspectors stamps present on the tang, lock plate screws, plate and buttcap screw. With a hickory ramrod with a swelled tip and slotted iron ferrule on the opposite end.

Fine. The metal surfaces have a semi bright, once polished appearance. There is some minor flash pitting on the barrel in the area of the flash hole. The stock is fine with crisp cartouche and other inspector's initials showing a few scattered minor dings and dents. The markings are clear. The action is excellent. This is a well above average example of a primary U.S. Martial Flintlock pistol!
