U.S. SPRINGFIELD M1 GARAND NAVY 7.62 NATO MK2

MODEL 1 TROPHY SEMI-AUTO RIFLE. Cal. 7.62 NATO. S# 1837921. Bbl. 24". The bbl. markings include “7.62MM” “SA” & “110104576” dated “6 65” & defense acceptance stamp. Additionally marked after the bbl. was finished “H&R” & “7.62 NATO”. Locking bar rear sight w/ battle range elevation knob. Blade front sight w/ protective ears. Rifle was originally mfg. in 1943 in 30-06 & was converted in the late 1950’s by the U.S. Navy to the then new 7.62 NATO cartridge. Using a bushing to shorten the chamber did not prove successful. These rifles were made by substituting the original bbl. for one chambered for the NATO cartridge. The mag. wells were given a spacer block to enhance feeding & prevent the accidental loading of 30-06 cartridges. The rifles were eventually disposed of by the Navy, & the Civilian Marksman Program sold a number of them as bbl. receivers (not complete rifles) in 2012 & 2013. All visible parts markings are “SA”. Milled trigger guard. Steel spacer block. Unmarked replacement birch stock set w/ trap buttplate. Green web sling. CONDITION: stock set has light wear & scattered handling marks w/ arsenal rework type finish. Rifle retains 75% original Parkerized finish. Replacement bbl. retains lg. degree of its Parkerized finish. Very good shiny bore w/ sharp lands. PROVENANCE: Consignor supplied tag which states rifle obtained from Scott Duff collection & originally accompanied by a Navy release form which is no longer available. (22-4207/RW). CURIO. $1,000-1,500.
