U.S.S. Barbero Missile Mail This was the first United States mail OFFICIALLY flown via missile or rocket. Only a few hundred were flown in 1959 by a Regulus I Training Guided Missile from the guided missile submarine U.S.S. Barbero. They were sent by the Postmaster General as a public relations gesture and addressed to members of Congress and the Cabinet. The cover is back stamped in Jacksonville, Florida 8 June 1959. This letter is complete including the enclosure letter from Postmaster General Arthur Summerfield. Of the three types of envelopes known (pointed flap, round flap and Press Release/undated version), this cover has the rounded flap. An extremely important addition to any space memorabilia collection. Pristine condition. Estimate: $ 500 - 750
