Blade front and groove rear sights, with "U.S./ LF/ P" on the upper left side of the barrel, "F" on the left flat, and "U.S./ R. JOHNSON/ MIDDn CONN/ 1837" on the lock plate. Smooth stock, with a swivel ramrod, bright steel furniture, and "LF" and "HK" cartouches on the left side, opposite the lock. The Model 1836 Flintlock Pistol was the standard issue handgun of the Mexican War, many were converted to percussion and continued to see extensive use during the Civil War.

Condition: Very good, with a small amount of pitting on the polished surface, concentrated on and around the frizzen spring. A dark mixed patina is visible on the flashpan. Stock is good as revarnished, with a chip and a crack behind the lock, a light chip near the butt, and mild pressure dents. Frizzen spring is slightly weak, otherwise mechanically excellent.
