U.S. Remington Z Prefix Model 1903A4 World War II Sniper Rifle with Lyman Alaskan Telescopic Sight

"Z prefix" Model 1903A4 sniper rifle was manufactured by the Remington Arms Co. in 1943. The rifle has a blue Lyman Alaskan telescopic sight with military post and cross-hair reticle. The scope serial number "26824" roll stamped on the left side of the tube. The rifle has the distinctive Model 1903A4 features which include Type "C" pistol grip stock with bolt relief cut-out, modified bolt handle, rear sight removed to accommodate the scope mount and a barrel with no front sight base or blade. The rifle has been Ordnance overhauled and the receiver, bolt, scope mount, rings, buttplate, small bow trigger guard, lower, middle and upper barrel bands, sling swivels and stacking swivel have a green parkerized, finish. The left side of the stock is stamped with the Rock Island Arsenal overhaul mark "RIA/EB" enclosed in a rectangle. The receiver markings "U.S./REMINGTON/MODEL 03-A3" are rolled to the left side to allow them to be viewed with the scope mount in place. The serial number, "Z4002817" is located on the right side of the receiver below the scope mount. The two-groove barrel is roll-stamped "RA"/"Ordnance Shell and Flame" insignia/"4-44". The right rear of the scope base is stamped "REDFIELD". Most of the rifle components are stamped with the Remington "R". A circled block "P" proofmark is stamped in the inside of the pistol grip. The stock has been refinished and the Remington factory sub-inspection marks are visible in front of the floor plate. The original circled "P" proofmark is stamped on the inside of the pistol grip. The scope is fitted with a russet leather lens cover stamped "U.S." on the front. The cover appears to be an excellent reproduction.

Very fine as arsenal refurbished. The rifle retains 98% of the arsenal parkerized finish and shows almost no wear since the Rock Island Arsenal overhaul. The stock was refinished during overhaul and is excellent plus with sharp RIA rebuild stamp and proofmark. The Lyman Alaskan scope is nearly new with excellent optics and 98% of the original blue finish. This is an excellent example of a WWII production, "Z Prefix", Remington M1903A4 Sniper Rifle that was overhauled by Rock Island Arsenal following WWII and probably sold through the DCM in the mid 1960s.
