Manufactured from 1955 to 1964 with a heavy barrel and equipped with a Redfield Olympic Model globe front sight and receiver mounted Redfield International Match peep sight. The left side of the receiver ring is marked "U.S. / 22 LONG RIFLE" over the serial number and the left receiver wall is marked "Remington / MODEL 40-X" the right rear side of the barrel is marked with the typical Remington barrel proofs and the left side is marked with the barrel date-lot code marking "N C L 8". 6 1/2" ahead of the breech are two drilled holes for rear sight/scope block mounting and the top of the front and rear receiver rings are drilled,(screws in the front two) for scope mounting. Adjustable serrated trigger and mounted with the standard heavy pistol grip walnut target-style stock with the accessory rail and hand stop, cut out at the front of the comb, sling swivels and a black rubber "WHITE LINE" marked buttplate.

Condition: Very fine. The rifle retains 90% plus original blue finish with a few scattered minor scratches and dings, and some high edge wear. The stock is very fine with exception of a minor gouge on the right forearm, a series of small dings on the left forearm, a few small dings around the edge of the pistol grip and overall some minor dents and scratches. The markings are crisp and clear. The action is excellent.
