Manufactured circa 1862 - 1865, this particular example was made in 1863. Blade front and three leaf rear sights, with "STEEL H.S.L" on the left flat and the bayonet lug on the right side near the muzzle. Casehardened lock plate, marked "1863" behind the hammer, "eagle/ U.S." and "REMINGTON'S / ILION, N.Y." in front of the hammer, with a "L" stamped at the very front. Smooth straight grip stock, with 2 barrel bands, tulip head ramrod, a pair of faint cartouches on the reverse of the lock, "C" marked trigger guard and patch box lid hinge, and a "U.S." stamped buttplate. Condition: Very fine, with 95% plus of the original blue finish, showing scattered brown spotting and mild handling marks, and a small ding on the left side of the front barrel band and muzzle. The rear sight leaf pin is a professionally fabricated replacement. The case colors are fading to a smooth gray, with some spotting on the hammer and hints of original bright color in the protected areas. Stock is excellent, with pressure dents, a few small chips and scattered light handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
