This is a unique example of a Colt Model 1878 Revolver that was manufactured in 1902 for the U.S. Government. The top of the barrel is marked "COLT'S PT. F. A. MFG Co HARTFORD CT. U.S.A." in one line with the caliber marking "45 COLT." on the left side. The left side of the frame is stamped with the Rampant Colt in a circle. "R.A.C." is stamped on the left side of the trigger guard. "29" is stamped on the left side of the backstrap and the outside of the loading gate. The serial number is marked on the butt in front of the sling swivel. Fitted with a set of checkered hard rubber bird's head grips with the Rampant Colt in an oval which are unnumbered on the inside.
BBL: 7 1/2 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 45 Long Colt
Finish: blue
Grips: hard rubber
Serial Number: 48633
Condition: Fine, 30% plus of the original blue finish remains with a smooth gray patina on the balance and a few areas of bright silver mostly on the ejector housing and high edges. There are scattered light dings all over the cylinder with some on the barrel and sides of the frame. There are some patches of minor pitting on the front and back straps. The grips are both good with considerable wear and a "V" incised on the bottom of the left grip. Mechanically functions but needs work as the cylinder does not stay locked up when not in use.
