U.S. Property Marked Colt First Series Woodsman Match Target Semi-Automatic Pistol

Manufactured in 1944, this is a Colt Woodsman Target pistol purchased by the Army Ordnance and is possibly one of an estimated total of 3,962 pistols purchased by the U.S. military during the World War II. The right side of the frame is marked with the inspectors initials "G.H.D." and the reverse is marked "THE WOODSMAN" above "U.S. PROPERTY". The left rear of the barrel is marked with the "MATCH/(bullseye)/TARGET" marking. Equipped with a pinned blade front sight and an adjustable rear target sight. The two line address/patent marking is on top of the barrel and the caliber marking with the Rampant Colt is on the left side of the slide. The left side of the trigger guard bow is stamped with an "e" assembler's mark above the Colt "VP" triangle proofmark and the number "37" is on the reverse. Unmarked parkerized magazine and fitted with extended checkered plastic grips with the Rampant Colt molded at the tops.

Fair as refinished. The pistol retains half of a thin, faded parkerized finish remaining showing extensive scattered minor pitting under the finish. The grips are excellent plus with only the slightest handling marks and sharp checkering. The markings are clear. Mechanically fine.
