This example was manufactured in early 1916 and the barrel is stamped just behind the front sight "S A/flaming bomb/1-16". The bolt has a straight knob with the steel lot code "I8" marked on the underside of the safety lug. The front tang of the floor plate is stamped "flaming bomb/N.R.A.". Mounted on a straight grip stock with grasping grooves, a single reinforcing bolt, a boxed "J.S.A." cartouche on the left side of the wrist, a circled script "P" proofmark on the bottom of the wrist and a checkered steel buttplate. With a Springfield Armory Model 1905 bayonet dated 1916 and a white cloth covered scabbard.

Condition:
Very fine, 75% original blue finish with some scattered minor scratches and high edge wear overall. The lightly sanded stock is also excellent with some scattered dings and scratches. Mechanically fine. The bayonet is also very fine with some scattered minor freckling and the scabbard is also very good with some stains and a name in ink on the backside.
