U.S. Postal History Significant April 23, 18
U.S. U.S. Postal History Significant April 23, 1863 Civil War Letter containing 6 pages along with the 3c entire in which it was sent from a Union soldier in Beaufort, South Carolina to his brother in Pennsylvania. The letter covers many subjects but the major parts consist of a description of mail delivery to and from Port Royal where the mail boats came in, a description of the soldier's feelings, especially noting that they are willing to fight for the Union and the Constitution, but not for Emancipation (this is noted in a crude way by the writer), and how the writer is recovering from "South Carolina Distemper". There are many other aspects to this letter as well and examination is recommended. Some minor letter creasing but still in excellent condition. Estimate US$150-200
