U.S. U.S. Postal History 1853 Hoogas Diggings, California, Miner's Letter. A 1-1/2 page letter written by the miner to a person in Pennsylvania. The letter is accompanied by the original mailing envelope which bears the "Sacramento City, Cal" and "10" markings, both in black. The letter says that "I have written several letter that contained a (gold) specimen to you . . I am doing well & we are taking out a good deal of gold...Mr. Woodfield found a piece about a week ago that weighed 3 pounds and one ounce of pure gold..." The letter goes on to discuss various chunks of gold by weight and value and prospecting when there is a "slide" in the river. A good letter in nice quality. The cover shows some aging do to the type of stationery used. Estimate US$250-350
