U.S. Postal History 1852 Gold Miners Letter
U.S. U.S. Postal History 1852 Gold Miner's Letter From American Flat, California a three page letter written on Christmas day in which the miner notes that he hopes the receiver is in a place where there are plenty of "party girls". The letter goes on to say "...we did not like the mines on the count of it being so dry. I think we could done tolerable well if we had plenty of water..." The miner also talks about a terrible fire in Sacramento, smallpox outbreak at Spanish Flats (two men died). He also says that "there is plenty of women on the flat this winter and considerable gambling going on there..." Wonderful letter that is stained, but the writing is clear. It is obvious this letter had been through the mill on its travels, but still a great item. Estimate US$150-200
