U.S. Postal History 1840, Two Captain Prince
U.S. U.S. Postal History 1840, Two Captain Prince Shearman of the American Whaler "Parker" SFLs. The first is a wrapper without contents but with red "New-York Ship" mark. The second however is a nice two page letter to his wife in New Bedford written "on Board Ship Parker off Payta" and sent via Panama to Mass. The letter has some personal things but also a discussion of (whale) oil. The SFL has a red "SHIP" mark and matching Boston cds. The Captain drown in 1841 when he was taken out of his boat by the line while fast to a whale. The ship and its Captain are well known being listed both in Starbuck's "History of the American Whalefishery" and "Wood Abstracts". Nice quality for these. Estimate US$250-350
